I saw this on Electric Playground a few days ago, and i also got really excited for it- I had heard it was coming out awhile ago but i was assuming it would be another one of those awkward 3D sonic games ( a la' Gamecube).
I am just so happy these days with the revitalization of the side scroller- it was a game format i was sad to see go. This pretty much looks like its gonna be such fun.
*eagerly awaits*

Doesn't look to bad... still cant beat the old mega drive though on a 6 button pad... no save features and no MP3's (got one hooked up to the tv in the spare room ATM actually).
just hope they don't ruin it by putting difficulty levels and flashy boss's in... or dumb powerups

No difficulty levels, and only the usual powerups.
The boss' are just like the MD ones, Episode 1 has remakes of the old boss' but with a twist when you half way defeat them. Episode's 2-4 will have new boss' in the same style.

Trekker, what are your thoughts on the targeting system? seems like it might make things too easy... especially if they use it on boss levels as well...

I'm not too bothered. I didn't mind the homing attack, I think it's not necessary but I won't loose sleep over it being there. At the end of the day you don't need to use it.
Its now out... been playing the demo for the last hour and its quite good

Yeah, at first it seemed a little.... odd... but once you get as far as Lost Labyrinth it really comes into it's own. It's pretty awesome.
I'm going to write a proper review of this game sometime this weekend.

It is odd... but for some levels its needed to get to some cool areas, first few levels even, chain a few floating enemy's and you can access otherwise inaccessible areas.
not a bad price either at 1200 MS points (not sure what it is on PS3)... not enough achievements I think though... could have set some rings targets and more time targets

True, to be fair though some of those achievements are very hard, Egg Station Zone without taking damage? Lol, I don't know if I'll ever get that one. xD

I am so excite I want it now.
There seems to be some random hatred for the game, I think having what we've had so long now from Sonic Team, it's hard to believe they've come to their senses at all, but for my money, this is the greatest Sonic game in years, almost certainly since Sonic Adventure in 1998.
They've tweaked quite a lot of the physics now, and it's looking very slick indeed. Not sure if anyone has seen the latest videos from Comicon etc. but here are some linkehs;
