I still have nightmares from the time McDermott clicked on this particular video regarding Budd Dwyer, thinking it would be funny. While it was funny to a degree I was also rather disturbed by it.

(for those who don't know about it - well, you can search for it if you want, I won't embed it)

But should these things be allowed on YouTube? I can't help but think if a young kid stumbled across it the mental damage that could be done.

I think it should be flagged, but I don't think it should be disallowed. I mean there would be a fine line that would need to be walked, how much is too much. Can there be blood? If not how much is too much? I mean its quite a disturbing video to watch, but I think people in our society are too disconnected with death and the real world implications it has. Sure I knew there would be blood in the video, but did it happen the way I thought it would? No. And I was was moved by the video. I thought I wouldn't be but I was.

Just found an interesting quote from the wikipedia page on the bloke

Quote

Many older students reacted to the event by creating black comedy jokes similar to those that circulated after the Challenger disaster. A study of the incidence of the jokes showed that they were told only in areas where networks showed uncensored footage of the press conference

If its the one where the senater dude shoots his tonsils out I've seen it, Surprised if it was on youtube though. I thought it was nice how he at least took the time to tell everyone to step back.

I thought youtube did have 18 plus content but you had to register? Rarely use it so im not sure. I was just amazed how much blood there was but I wouldn't call it particuly gruesome to watch, its not like theres squishy brain matter everywhere.

I find the barely concealed glee of the media bandwagon at a guy shooting himself on camera more gruesome than the actual physical sight of it happening.

Well considering this particular video I don't think it's "graphic" as such, but as it is a real life event and not fictional it makes it a bit more disturbing to see.

I agree. It's the reality of the situation that made it disturbing for me. I certainly don't think it belongs on YouTube, certainly without prior warning.
