I have a fix in mind for this, but it involves AJAX and thus not changing the page at all. That's also why it's low-priority.
The eventual aim - Once the required stuff is out of the way - Is to effectively tier it so that browsers that don't support what we're going to offer at FS (Namely older versions of IE, IE8+ should be fine) will see the login pages you see now. Newer browsers will simply log in and render the page accordingly.
I can implement a fix for this, that is probably similar to what other forums systems do, but it seems hackish. It would work, however.

A fix for this is in the works which takes you to a separate page, similar to an advanced mode. It will probably make its way onto the site in the next few days.
